Padel Court Lighting Guide: Lux, Lumens & Design

Specify padel court lighting with lux calculations, uniformity and glare checks. Compare LED packages, pole positions, costs and handover requirements.

Specify padel court lighting from a site-specific lighting design, not fixture wattage alone. A useful proposal shows the court’s light distribution, uniformity and glare control for the intended level of play.

Lux, Lumens and Watts

Watts measure electrical power, lumens describe source output and lux measures illuminance on a surface. Neither wattage nor fixture count proves that a court will be adequately lit. Optics, positions, mounting heights and aiming determine the result.

Ask for a Photometric Plan

Define recreational use, competition or filming before choosing fittings. Ask the designer to identify the applicable guidance and provide:

  • The fixture model, layout, mounting heights and aiming.
  • A calculation grid with average and minimum illuminance.
  • The defined uniformity metric and maintenance assumptions.
  • Glare and any relevant boundary light-spill checks.

Minimum-to-average and maximum-to-minimum ratios are different measures. Compare reports using the same definition. The FIP Rules of Padel address visibility, lighting position and clearance; filming requirements need separate consideration.

Poles, Roofs and Player Visibility

Check fittings against the playing area, entrances and any out-of-court safety zone. Review high-ball sightlines, reflections near glass, adjacent courts and neighbours. More powerful lamps do not necessarily solve glare or poor distribution.

For covered courts, give the designer the roof drawings and internal finishes. Coordinate beams, mounting access and cable routes before installation.

Cost and Handover

Compare fittings, supports, controls, wiring, installation and commissioning on the same scope. Calculate energy cost from actual input power, operating hours and your tariff; include maintenance and replacement access.

Agree measurement locations, operating modes and acceptance targets before ordering. Keep the lighting report and installed aiming records. Local electrical work and testing should be performed by appropriately qualified personnel.

Quick answers

How many lux does a padel court need?

The target depends on intended use and applicable guidance. Ask the designer to state maintained illuminance, uniformity, glare criteria and the measurement method.

Are eight LED fittings enough?

Fixture count alone is insufficient. Check the proposed arrangement in a photometric plan for the actual court.

Can the same package work indoors and outdoors?

Only where the fittings and design suit the environment, roof geometry, mounting and maintenance requirements.

Send XTZ Padel your layout and lighting requirements, including intended use, location and roof drawings if applicable.
